How to Avoid Wedding Reception and Event Pitfalls

Here are a number of questions that you should keep in mind when hiring vendors for your wedding event and reception.
-
Did you do your vendor research?
Have you spoken with other couples that have used their services?
Were they satisfied with the service they received?
Do they have a good reputation in the community?
How much experience do they have?
Are their prices consistent? In other words, were there any surprise charges tacked on at the end of the event?
-
Was the vendor professional and courteous?
When discussing your event, did the vendor allow you enough time to articulate your needs? One of the most common statements I hear from wedding couples is that their event went by so fast, it was a blur. IF THE VENDOR RUSHES YOU THROUGH YOUR INITIAL MEETING IT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A BIG RED FLAG!
-
Did the vendor present themselves in a confident and personable fashion?
Were you asked by the vendor to look around at other local vendors and compare pricing and services? This question displays confidence in their services, and will almost always prove that their prices are competitive!
Did they provide you with examples of their work?
Did they provide you with references?
How were they dressed?
Did you feel comfortable with the vendor? This is very important as they will be directly involved in your event!
Were your questions addresses thoroughly? If they appeared to be avoiding a question it should be considered another BIG RED FLAG!
Was the vendor flexible?
Does the service fit within your budget? Experienced and professional vendors know that they have to be flexible and will work with you to help you maintain your budget.
-
Did you read the contract?
I know, I know! We all hate to read all that small print, and we usually skim it at best, but this is one of those times where you want to read and understand the contract fully! If there are sections you do not understand, ASK the vendor to elaborate BEFORE you sign.
-
Summary
By doing your research and thoroughly investigating the vendor’s services for experience, reputation, pricing, flexibility and professionalism, you will ensure that your wedding event and reception will be a wonderful success!
